Mawwiage

Besides the amazing Jack O'Lantern cauldron that my sis and bro-in-law gave me (which I plan to give his own blog post,) I'd have to say that my very favorite Christmas gift this year has been hearing the news that one of our dearest friends is getting married!! Hillary and my husband Brandon became friends a long time ago under the pretense of space rock [Bowie] and solitude [they're both back porch chatters] in the lost world of Bossier City. Later, Brandon would meet me in a bar and eventually confess to Hillary that I was "the one." Hillary, much like Brandon, is calm and collected and like water for my fire which is why she and I had no problem becoming best friends.

Hillary has been dating the man of her dreams for a few years now, the last couple of which she has spent with him in L.A.! As sad as we often are that they aren't here to participate in silly Sunday fun, Corgi experiments and cooking/wine-fests, we could not be more proud of her for devoting herself to a meaningful and wonderful relationship with her boyfriend Rue, whom we just so happen to adore. Brandon and I have the honor of sharing maid/man of honor duties and we could not be more excited! I don't often gush, but I cannot help it ... these are the people we want on our team [marriage] ... those who truly love each other, take time to cultivate a loving bond that doesn't need to be defined, but just so happens to eventually have paperwork. I don't have faith in much, but I have faith that some people do truly love and cherish each other and among those rare couples whom we admire are the future Mr. & Mrs. Torres.

Last Minute Cards

Here are some pictures of this year's Christmas Cards. I used stamps, stickers and cardstock to layer for a cute and cozy 3D look. Cute, quick & easy!

I said BURRRR

... its cold in here!! [If you're currently singing the rest of that cheer ... I love you.]

I HATE UGGS!!!!!! But, I broke down and bought some off brand cozies for bumming around and I'm officially in love. I will not be wearing these in public, but they're great for walking around in our pier and beam house, where the cold air just comes straight through the floor!

$12 at Burlington! hahah! I win!

And believe it or not ... there is not ONE SINGLE DECENT video of "I said BRRRRR!" ... so, sorry.

Wedgies!!

I think I might be the only person that likes these shoes, but that actually happens a lot. I have an affinity for wedges [which I call "wedgies" to be annoying] ... so, I have quite a collection of them and these new babies are my favorites right now. They actually came with fur on the ankle, but it was removable, which is how I justified the purchase.

So far I've worn these with my leggings and all black, but I'm hoping to find a nice fawn colored, ankle-length cotton skirt to create that long, lean look ... paired with a cream sweater and my camel handbag; yes!

Christmas Pups

This is my parents' new dog ... he doesn't have a name yet. They started out naming him "Smokey," which I think is precious,  but now he has 5 names and no one can make a final decision. In any case, he is so sweet and cute!

DIE HIPSTER SCUM!

"We can put birds on things and call it art!"

HHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Reasons 22-847 why I'll never go to Portland. I can't wait to watch/cringe at/laugh at/cry over this shit.

Tin Soldier

I found these old boots in one of my many [tiny] closets! Honestly, the closets in my house are so small!! I have racks of clothes just out in the open because I know if I close them up, I'll forget and never look in there again ... kinda like what happened with these awesome tin-man boots.

Metallic grey, military snaps on the side ... really only look good with black or denim. On my way out, Dear Husband said "hey, David Bowie" ... compliment!

Rouge

Got some new babies yesterday ... gorge!! [In case you're wondering, the "I feel bad buying myself something this close to Christmas" thing does not apply to shoes; nor shall it ever.] So far, my favorite thing to wear with these is my big, chunky, cream colored, boucle tunic sweater and my cutest underthings. Brandon approves, to say the very least. I may need to find a dress to wear with them at some point. Maybe a pink pencil skirt and cream top for Valentine's Day!! Or a navy blue polka dotted dress and some white kid gloves. Oh, the possibilities! Red is probably my favorite shoe color. They have their own little section in the shoe room!

** Books stacked everywhere is the usual state of my house; I would apologize, but that would be absurd, books are great anywhere ... also, Zombie Cross-stitch in the background, haha!

Rock Me, Amadeus.

Christmas List ...

That's right, all I want are these amazing chocolates with my favorite person (besides Brandon) on them ... Wolfie!! I saw them at World Market today but I feel bad buying myself stuff this close to Christmas. I need to be shopping for other people!

A Christmas Carol

Just a quick announcement. There is a great performance of A Christmas Carol going on at Marjorie Lyons Playhouse this (& next) week!

Adults: $15
Senior citizens, students and active military: $12
Christmas Day: Pay what you will!

Times are:
16th, 17th and 18th: 8:00 p.m.
19th: 2:00 p.m.
23rd: 8:00 p.m.
24th: 2:00 p.m.
25th: 4:00 p.m.

I love the theatre! And I just so happen to have met the guy who is playing Scrooge this year (Kelly's hubby!) and I am so excited to see him act! I've always secretly wanted to do theater, which is why nearly every party I go to ends up with me singing Queen songs at stage  worthy volume to innocent bystanders.

Anyway, go see it! Support local art!

And sorry I can't link anything, I'm blogging from my phone until my computer is fixed!  ::sadkate::

High Five

I think Rupert would rather have his palm read ...

Reading Rainbow

I've been studying Tarot for awhile now. I'm pretty intrigued by the cards, their history and meaning. I recently got some beautiful, professional looking cards that I am so happy with! I read for Mallori last weekend and the outcome was just great. I also was able to read for Brandon. He wanted me to "get good" before he let me read for him, so I was pretty happy when he said ... "okay, get the cards, it's my turn!"

So, the plan is to have a few people over for a Tarot-themed night soon. [I can't wait to invent a themed drink for that night!] I have some people that have expressed interest in my "talents" and I would love to spread that positive energy around! For the record ... this has nothing to do with Satan. Divination is a way to "forsee" or be inspired by God. It has many manifestations, cartomancy is just something that I like to study and learn more about. ♥

Gift Parade

Dear Husband has decided to give me a gift every day until Christmas. [!?!?!? I know ...] This started December 1st! I was going to post them and do a whole big blog on it, but honestly ... some of the gifts are sentimental and I think it might be taking away from it to be braggy on the internet. However, today's gift is totally awesome and blog-worthy without a hint of barfy romance. I just wanted to publicly display  how much I love my husband and how lucky I am to have someone so thoughtful and romantic to spend the rest of my life with. I can't wait for tomorrow's gift! Haha. He has created a monster ...

Thrifting With Cookie

Thrifting was great fun. Cookie makes a great model and I was able to style her a couple different ways. I call this Cookie by Cake [those are our nicknames at the library!] so, enjoy! And I apologize for the picture quality. I didn't have my kick ass camera with me!

Navy, sleeveless, ribbed sweater dress & ruched powder blue leather booties.
Sweater Dress: $10

Definitely my favorite look. This skirt is amazing; great cut, thin and comfortable suede material ... I paired it with the boots that I couldn't stop obsessing over and a really interesting, chunky knit sleeveless top. The whole thing is very "mesa" ... I like it a lot.
Sweater: $14
Skirt: $9
Boots: $18

Eeeeek! I love these. Of course, if you paired them with white skin tight pants and tacky jewelry, you'd probably just look like one of the washed up cougars at the Rockin' Rodeo, but they really do have a use outside the realm of totally tacky. When subdued, they're almost victorian looking.

Date night senorita! This simple black dress is adorable. Anything pulled off the shoulder looks spanish to me. Not in a bad way, just in a way that makes you hope they're going dancing later.
Dress: $18
Shoes: $18

Cookie: "I don't have a pair of red shoes."
Me: "........ seriously?"

I picked these out for Cookie. Now she has red shoes.

You never really know what you're going to find when you go thrifting. The fun of it is seeing how many outfits you can put together in your size from one shop. I defnitely encourage thrifting and antiquing ... I'm actually going to go through a bunch of my stuff and maybe set up shop one day soon! I've got tons of clothes in all different sizes that I just never wear or can't anymore. Clothes party soon!

Antique-ing

My new favorite thing to do is thrift and antique ... and to use those words as verbs. I found this gorgeous candelabra today ... wrought iron and glass ... nearly 3 feet long! $18 Amazing. I am definitely making little Zombee votives from now on. Get excited!! Also, I'm definitely printing that middle picture out and framing it ... I love my camera!! I need to start stamping my photos with a little H or something.

Don't Dress Yourself, Alba

SWEET. FANCY. MOSES.

                                                update:  JESUS. TAP-DANCING. CHRIST.
                                                update #2:  HOLY, shitballs.
update #3:  OH. NO. SHE. DI-EHNT.

If you're under the impression that this is "fierce," "cute," or even "not that bad," ... just stop it. We can't be friends. Ever. Also, if you actually use the word "fierce" at any time other than a conversation about gladiator battles in ancient Rome or feral cat fights fighting in a back alley ... just click the little red X at the top right of this box. It's over between us, just move along.

Kisses,
QB

I Need This ...

A.) This is an expensive, slutty version of a Snuggie, right?

2.) I really, really want one; I'll be talking with my favorite seamstress soon.

iii.) I really, really don't like Angelina Jolie. Gross.

[update: I'm just jelly.]

The Fort

I think the best part about working from home is the atmosphere. Like now, for instance ... I look wicked hideous in my jams and cardi, but thats okay; I'm at home! I'm also working while watching Toy Story 3 and scarfing Flamin' Hot Cheetos. This is the life, my friends.

This is The Fort ... deemed such by my dear husband. When we moved into our old Highland home, Brandon  agreed to give me a room for my shoes. This room eventually became The Fort ... a place where every day is Halloween and skipping class counts as "being productive." The desk you see is made of book shelves from WalMart and the original door from the linen closet. The super-classy, pre-lit, white Christmas tree was given to me by an old friend [I begged for it] and creates a gorgeous glow in the evenings. The ceiling is bead-board  and there are 6 windows, lining the outer 3 walls. Its original function was quite obviously "sunroom," but I've modified it to "whatever the hell room." Other highlights include framed treasures, such as a Han Solo photo, as well as a love letter from dear hubby ... a candle-making set up that looks like a meth lab, my beachy wedding dress hanging [for some reason] on the wall, various inspiration boards, Halloween accoutrement and a handbag wall.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! One more day of school, then finals week. Pray to the brain gods for me ...

♥KH

P.S. I ended up having to move the shoes elsewhere. You will never see pictures of that room ... oh, the horror.

P.P.S. Toy Story 3 is precious.
