Oh, crap. I suck at living a productive life this week. I think I'm just suffering the backlash of October's busyness and a wicked case of post-Halloween depression. The weather has changed, finally, so I have that to look forward to. But, Brandon and I have this habit of waiting until the very last minute [i.e. nearly freezing to death] before turning on the heat for fear of jinxing ourselves into another heat spike. Honestly ... I hate it here. I love the city [perfect size] and the people [what up, 318!?] but I just can't handle having horrible weather all the time.
I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee where there are four very distinct seasons marked by the appropriate time frame, weather and layers of clothing. When I moved here, I don't think I realized until about the 3rd year that we were still wearing flip flops in November. As an adult, I absolutely refuse to wear tank tops, shorts, sun dresses and flip flops/sandals past August. It is just ridiculous. I have a mantra to get myself through each horrid summer that lasts until November ... "I dress for the season, not the weather." Now that it has finally caught up, I wont be the only person in boots and long sleeves at work.
Bitching aside, I love Louisiana. I don't think there is anywhere else short of Italy where I would be encouraged to consume this much salt and cook everything with peppers. No one cares about digestive systems here, its great.
Moving on ... I have about 50 pages of homework to make up thanks to missing so much school in October and all I want to do now is watch Christmas movies, plan my Thanksgiving spread and read my stack of junk fiction that I've been putting off for two months. Is that too much to ask? If the weather keeps, I'm going to make my delicious homemade chicken noodle soup this weekend. Brandon likes to call it my "four hour soup" ... I don't think he likes the wait.
Now, here is Don Draper ... describing my thoughts this morning upon waking up naturally at 6:00 ...

Keira Toothley
Before I get started ... let me say that "Keira Toothley" is a compliment. I have tiny teeth, I hate it. My Mom is toothy. I've always wanted that ... I really like it when a girl looks like she has too many teeth, like maybe she can't close her mouth all the way or even attempt to whistle. It thins out the face and makes for great pictures and I get the feeling that she never chokes on food because those chompers can get just about anything down. Now, let's talk about this ...
This outfit is getting criticized and I have no idea why. I mean, this works ... there are so many reasons why. We have here what appears to be demure and nearly prudish in cut, but the sheer fabrics, perfect fit and lack of ridiculous accessories make this a dream outfit for a winter's night out. The top almost looks like a burnout, boat-neck tee from Delia's that she's had for years, which I'm sure it isn't, but it's all about the finished look, right? I could wear that skirt every day of my life. Well, every night of my life, I guess. The fabric is sheer and a bit sparkly with a heavy trim of black at the bottom. Can you see her legs peeking through!? So great. The top of that skirt is pleated which makes me think the fabric is some sort of glittery organza I can only dream about wearing one day since the pleats don't fall as they should, but puff out when the seam stops. I happen to know she is comfortable because I have a skirt just like that [made out of boring tan linen] so the smile she has is more than likely genuine. My favorite part of that skirt is imagining her sitting down in the back of a limo on the way to this event, all puffed up and fabulous. Man, I'm so jelly! Perfect almond toed shoes; I'm hoping they're suede, I'm positive they have a platform. And Keira is practicing one of my favorite past times ... pulling your long sleeves over your fingers a la an angst-y Jennifer Love Hewitt in Party of Five.
The LV 2010-esque length [and cut] of the skirt, the platform pumps, the hair, the toothy, non-made-up face ... all of it. Also ...
If I ever get thin [and stupid-pretty], I'm doing this to my hair. Mark my words!

Neon Cheetah ♥
Yeah, girl! Do you ever feel like you want to just dance around with your Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper from 3rd grade, but not in public for fear of being labeled a Katy Perry fan? [yikes!] We might just be kindred spirits, then. I took a break from watching re-runs of Shark Week [hell yes] to take pictures of my obnoxious new nails. And by obnoxious I mean amazing!
Thanks, Heather! a.k.a. Whyte Spyder
Halloween Prep / Craft Time
Oh, man! I can't wait to show everyone the pictures from the Halloween Party! I thought I'd do a "prep" blog first, though. I did a candy bar for the party, which involved apothecary jars, ribbon and an absolute shit-ton of candy. Whoo! I carry a mini hot glue gun around in my purse ... that's how crafty I've been over the last month! Absurd, but great fun.
It's best to put a hot glue dot right on the glass, press the ribbon and then tightly wrap it around and glue again. You shouldn't need to glue all the way around!
Black, glitter spiderweb ribbon on thick grosgrain; a layered look for the licorice jar!
I made little baggies, decorated with foam stickers for the guests to fill their candy buffet treats with.
The little ghost was my favorite!!
I made VIP ribbons for the ladies who helped me set up for the party. I used little ribbons to wrap up the tulle, plus a mixture of different widths of grosgrain, satin and organza ribbon in
Halloween colors and a lot of hot glue!
I think they turned out pretty great!
Meanwhile, Mallori was busy painting a haunted tree for the background. Freezing her tail off, surely.
Party pics coming soon! My post-Halloween depression is settling in nicely. 363 days left to plan the next party ... I already have so many ideas! The best way to combat my depression is to plan a glorious Thanksgiving dinner, so that will be my focus for the next few weeks.
